Mentoring

Cyanotype printing in The Patch 2019

Within a few weeks, the mentoring discourse had got my creative juices flowing again. An hour’s meeting led to tasks being given and goals being agreed. Juliet helped me to recognise my long term ambitions and more immediate aims. She set me back on the path of research and discovery; mind-maps were turned into timelines and ideas into drawings and textile work. With a new body of work well on its way to realisation and Suffolk Open Studios just a few weeks away, I feel happy and fulfilled with both the quality and quantity of my work. However, I won't be giving up mentoring yet, as the personal accountability that it fosters is worth its weight in gold.

Why choose me as a mentor

I am a mixed media artist with a fine art and textiles background.

I am the founder and artistic director of Lockarts, an arts in mental health organisation

I have over 20 years of experience as a community artist working with all age groups delivering arts workshops and courses

I am the artist in residence with The Writers Company

I can support you with developing a body of work or developing your creative practice at whatever stage of your career. I can advise on developing workshops and courses if you are interested in teaching and identify ways to develop and manage one off projects.

Having Juliet as a mentor has had a hugely positive influence on my creative life. Although regularly a maker, for several years my creative pathways had been blocked. I made art in response to exhibition titles rather than having it flow as the natural outpouring of my interests and activities. I disliked this 'stop/ start' type of creativity, and longed for something more.

As an artist I have over 30 years of experience and am continually developing my own practice.  As founder of the charity, Lockarts, I have experience in running a small creative business and all aspects of creative project management.

In both my own work and my work as a community artist I specialise in bringing together the arts and heritage to promote positive wellbeing.

I have an MA in Creative Writing and Literature., and have had my work published.

I charge £50 an hour which includes time taken to look at up to three images in advance, a one hour online meeting and follow up email.
